Persuasive and surreal, V&R Emprise lamps are of two broad kinds: decorative and statuary. The decorative lamps consist of ambient geometric patterns, often overlaid with pageants of flowers, all meticulously hand painted on a ceramic jar or urn. The statuary lamps indiscriminately mix elements of the animal and human worlds in a totemic procession crowned by a shower of light. While the decorative lamps seem to burn with the steady dedication of the artists who painted them, the statues appear to generate their light through the friction between the unlikely and the wild.
